LSNA Approver Unit

A division of the Louisiana State Nurses Association

The LSNA Approver Unit is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation (COA). The Approver Unit adheres to the criteria established by the ANCC-COA.

All Applicants, Individual Education Activity and Approved Providers, of continuing nursing education who participate in the approval process are expected to document compliance with all Approved Provider and Educational Design Criteria.

ATTENTION: If you were approved through SCAP, according to ANCC continue to use the SCAP approval statement until your approval has expired.
The expiration date can be found on your original approval letter you received, this applies to both IEA’s and AP’s.


Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Activities – Those learning activities intended to build upon the educational and experiential bases of the professional RN for the enhancement of practice, education, administration, research, or theory development, to the end of improving the health of the public and RN’s pursuit of their professional career goals.

What do these mean and which do I qualify for?

Individual Educational Applicant

Processing Time: 60 Days

IEA forms can be submitted at any time.
Holidays and weekends count toward the 60 days.

is defined as an individual, organization, or part of an organization submitting an educational activity for approval from an Accredited Approver (LSNA).

Those interested in submitting a CNE activity for approval from an Accredited Approver must complete all eligibility requirements as outlined in the IEA Application below.

Must have a minimum of one Nurse Planner: A currently licensed RN with a baccalaureate degree or higher in nursing who is actively involved in all aspects of planning, implementation, and evaluation of each CNE activity. The Nurse Planner is responsible for ensuring that appropriate educational design principles are used and processes are consistent with the requirements of the ANCC Primary Accreditation Program.

Individual Activity Applicants: Required to have a clearly defined process for assessing needs as the basis for planning, implementing, and evaluating CNE. CNE activities are designed, planned, implemented, and evaluated in accordance with adult learning principles, professional education standards, and ethics.

Applicant must be within the United States, IEA’s do not need to follow the Boundary Rule set for the AP’s.

Approved Provider

Processing Time: 4 Months

DEADLINES for the AP forms are the 1st of the following months:

is defined structurally and operationally as the members of the organization who support the delivery of continuing nursing education activities.

Organizations interested in submitting an application as an Approved Provider must complete the eligibility verification process and meet all eligibility requirements.

Must be one of the following types of organizations:
    C/SNA of ANA
    College or University
    Healthcare Facility
    Health-Related Organization
    Multidisciplinary Educational Group
    Professional Nursing Education Group
    Specialty Nursing Organization

Initial Applicants: Contact the office before submitting an application. Required to have completed the process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for at least 3 separate educational activities provided at separate and distinct events.

AP applicants must be within Region 6:
Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas;
and within the Boundary Rule.

The NEW ANCC 2015 criteria forms are HERE!!!!

ANCC revised some of the criteria last year (2015) and with it came some changes, a few are listed below:

  • Sign in sheet - no longer need a Unique Identifier
  • Joint Provider Agreement - no longer needed
  • Certificate of Completion - no longer need a signature
  • Live and Enduring Activities - now use the same forms.
  • Self-study approval for becoming an Approved Provider Unit has decreased in the number of criterion you need to speak to.
  • Educational Process: You will still need a purpose, but now you will need Learning Outcomes.
    • First suggest one for each hour of activity, then you will still need content, time frame, presenter, teaching methods, and evidence-based references.

Anyone turning in an application soon may still use the old forms, we will be only requiring the new forms starting August 1, 2016
(this applies to both IEA and AP forms).


When starting a new application you should always check the website in case changes have been made.

Applications will not be considered complete unless payment (with form) has been received; keep with but separate from the application. Payment is for the review process ONLY; no refunds will be given for non-approval or withdrawal.

           The new IEA Payment Form goes into effect to anything submitted on/after 06/01/16.          AP's expiring in 2017 need to contact the office for an updated payment form.
